I can't give good answers to your specific questions (although I think
one scan per physical device should be enough), but here's a thought:

Since you have a mix of devices I wonder if they are being properly
associated on reboot with the right adapter numbers. This topic was
much discussed a few years ago and has just revisited me.

Mostly now it can be solved by an 'options xxxx adapter_nr=X' line in
/etc/modprobe.d/dvb.conf, but when I looked at 'modinfo em88xx', where
that is the driver shown in my dmesg, I didn't see adapter_nr support;
it turned out that I needed em88xx_dvb. Look at 'lsmod'

I just wanted to give some feedback since you all were so kind to give
me advice. I think I finally got it all configured but since a few days
back I have no longer sound on my MythTV :(

So before I can feel 100% confident that the channel scan is successful
I need to fix the sound issue. Any help on this problem would also be
appreciated!

I have to look at the recent updates to see what has changed.

Thank you all who helped me with the channel scan!

And FYI here is the result of my configuration:

Hi: I haven't noticed any comment on this, but I have had a sound bug
in the past few days while doing tests that remove some transport
streams. On starting playback it reports something like 'reconfiguring
audio failed', shows a big red cross and goes mute.

It seems that my nvidia card is getting into HDMI2 audio mode. Sound
comes back if I select HDMI instead. In KDE System Settings that comes
in 'Advanced'

Hello!

This is the exact same behaviour I experience.

I also have a nvidia card but I don't know where to see or change the
HDMI1/HDMI2 audio mode?

A few days back (22/2) MythTV was updated to 29.1 and also ffmpeg and
libav to 3.4.2. Don't know if that can be the cause.

Best regards,
Peter Carlsson

Interesting. I didn't know whether to blame the ffmpeg resync, a newish
nvidia driver (390.25, IIRC) or my stream-mangling experiments. I think
it has always been triggered by starting playback of a modified HD
DVB-T2 recording (aac/LATM, again IIRC).

I doubt that Myth has internal settings for it at present; I have an
audio devices widget in my task bar, and also in the KDE
plasma-systemsettings audio devices screen. It doesn't survive reboots.

I'm not sure that the HDMI2 mode is the real problem, although changing
it does bring sound back.

Frontend setup has two sets of audio tests: one under the Wizard and one
under Audio. The Wizard version works for me, but ISTR that the 'Audio'
version has been mute for some time.

The device that is found is ALSA:hdmi:CARD=NVidia,Dev=1 , but on a
Rescan under the Audio tag the monitor shows

ALSA: snd_pcm_info_getcard: Operation not permitted
ALSA: snd_pcm_open("sysdefault:CARD=SAA7134") : No such file or directory

and the speaker test fills the monitor screen with:

AddData called with audio framework not initialised

'aplay -l' shows only the NVidia devices HDMI 0 and HDMI 1
