New release of scte65scan (mainly for Comcast users)
I decided to host the project at sourceforge. Web page is http://scte65scan.sourceforge.net

In case you're just tuning in, this will help make your SchedulesDirect or other guide data lineup match with your digital clearQAM layout. (i.e. channel 35 in SchedulesDirect is FOODTV which is mplexid=84/serviceid=5 in MythTV and 84.5 on your digital capable TV)

From the changelog (0.2):
Compiles under/for Windows
Added HDHomerun support (no idea if working; I don't have one)
Added PSIP scan
Added input file mode (including stdin)
Myth SQL tested working
Name output now default
Cleaned up output layout
Added GPL license

Short attention span instructions are:
1. Go to Comcast office. Get Pace DC50X DTA (they're free). Punch up diagnostic page. Write down VCT_ID. Do what you want with DTA b/c you don't need it any more.

Dennis,
I'm on this item this morning WRT the HDHR as soon as the wife
wakes up and I can get the the VCT_ID in the bedroom.

No matter what comes out of this from all us HDHR users out here
having a terrible time with the switch I appreciate your efforts.

I'm curious as to the need for the VCT_ID. Is it that Comcast only
transmits this info to their own known good IDs or something like
that?

Also, the Myth.org HDHR setup suggests scanning for QAM64 also. Is
that necessary and is it even supported with scte65scan?

Dennis,
OK, I got the VCT_ID but am having some problems finding the HDHR.
How does the program understand the network location of this device?
Should I be giving it the IP address? The ID on the bottom of the
HDHR?

I'm making the assumption that I can run scte65scan from any Linux
box on my network, but it's complaining about not finding dvb devices:

This is in the libhdhomerun directory that you get when you untar the
e.g. libhdhomerun_20070914.gtar that you got from silicon dust

So try:

CFLAGS="-I <path-to-libhdhomerun>" make -f Makefile.hdhr

or look inside Makefile.hdhr, maybe you are supposed to edit it

Thanks for the response. Same results with the command you
suggested. I tried making the path ./libhdhomerun and I also tried the
full path name. Neither worked for me.

Looking inside tunerdmx.c right near the beginning I see:

#ifdef HDHR
#include "hdhomerun.h"

which seems to be what kicks this off.

Note that I do have the SiliconDust software installed on this
system and it runs. (hdhomerun_config and hdhomerun_config_gui) I'm
not a programmer but the make files for those programs seem to use
libhdhomerun differently. It's not in the source directory but
actually at the same level as the source. (Note that this install I
did a little while ago and it uses an older library. For the program
Dennis did I got a new copy as I figured that's what most folks are
likely to do.)

Ok, after getting a few pointers off list I'm a bit further, but
really Dennis needs to look at this to ensure it's really done the way
he intends.

makes integer from pointer without a cast
mark@lightning ~/scte65scan/scte65scan-0.2-modified $

What I did after this was to add the tp argument to tuner_checklock
and then to add that also to tunerdmx.o. At this point I'm WAY over my
head as this last error then reflects into scte65scan.c and I don't
know how to fix that.

Again, I'm NOT a C programmer so probably everything I've done is
wrong. I think maybe this code wasn't compiled using the Makefile.hdhr
path? Not sure. Certainly I'm having trouble.

Dennis,
The new version from svn compiles cleanly but I'm getting an error
message about not finding /dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0.

Isn't that for some other non-HDHR video recording device or am I
running the program incorrectly?

I just got the latest svn checkout and it seems there is still a minor bug in tunerdmx.c.
I needed to change line 49 from
hd = hdhomerun_device_create_from_str(idstring, NULL);
to
hd = hdhomerun_device_create_from_str(idstring);
Then it will compile ...

Unfortunately,

Larry,
I'm working directly with Dennis off-line running tests for him on
new code. We're making good headway. I cannot say how long you might
have to wait but I am seeing some really great data coming out of my
HDHR at this point using code not in SVN at this time.

I expect that Dennis will wrap this up soon - in the next day or
two if things go well - and then he'll make a new release I'm sure.
Wait for his announcement.

That's all 'above 35' stuff so it will help when Comcast turns off
analog. The number '4' implies QAM_256 I beleive. I'm trying to test
for good channel.program numbers while I think Dennis is working on
fixing up the other code so that everyone can use it in a more normal
way than I am.

This is coming out just in time. Comcast moved its channels around a couple of weeks ago, and I'm sure they'll move again after the Broadcast analog shutdown.

Now, the one thing that would make it perfect would be if the MythTV SQL import would include the XMLid. I hate having to enter those.

Got nothing with the supplied freq table. I saw my hdhr locking on
frequencies that weren't in your table so I made my own. Still no luck.
I'm in Santa Cruz CA. Is it possible that Comcast here isn't
broadcasting this stuff? They are giving out the STBs...

Do you have one of the Pace DTA's activated so you can see your VCT_ID
in the info page?

If the Pace displays channel numbers on your TV screen when you change
channels then this program *should* pick up the same data.

Note that before you can really get data into Myth you do also have to
enable the channels in your lineup at SchedulesDirect.

The -p attempts to pick up the HD channels. It seems you aren't
getting any data which makes me wonder whether having a DTA authorized
is a requirement for Comcast to transmit the data. Brad and I both had
them authorized. Larry and Jason were, I beleive, doing other things.

No. Only two homeruns.

What freq do you pick it up on? Is it one that you also get programming
on? I only put the freqs into my table that my hr locked and found
programs on. Maybe I'll try them all...

I would have expected it to be broadcast to everyone like the TV
channels. The DTAs are supposed to be very simple - no decryption etc.

Please note that my firmware has been updated to 20090415 to match the
library. At a minimum please make sure your firmware matches the
revision of the library your using.

As for activating the DTA, my was already activated and Brad activated
his while we were doing this work. I'm not sure whether we know what
Comcast does in a house that doesn't have at least one DTA, but again,
that was one of Dennis's original assumptions that we did have it.

I've built this a new backend server I'm trying (trying, trying,
trying) to bring up but never had the scte65scan code on before.

Yes, and I don't know how they would not transmit it to a single house
unless something on the poll blocks it, but that said it may be a
requirement. We simply don't know.

Might be the trap for expanded cable, I only have basic. Bummer!

Hmmm. But I would expect the STA to work with basic too, so that can't
be it.

Don't know about that. Might be. Might not. I presume the DTAs are
completely free even to basic cable subscribers. If Comcast pushes
100% digital then everyone will need one. They didn't charge me. You
should get one and try it out.

Sorry, but I noticed I made a mistake on my command line earlier and

Yes

I just tried scanning all the freqs that the silicon dust scanner tries,
no luck. As expected, freqs that don't lock don't lock :-)

Thanks for your work getting the program working for homeruns. I'm sure
I'm close.
