Remote frontend not working - Mythbuntu Control Centre option greyed out?
I am trying to get a remote frontend to connect to a Mythbuntu 7.1
combined frontend/backend. MySQL is working as MythTV works fine

However, when I load Mythbuntu Control Centre - System Services the
dropdown that allows you to enable MySQL service on the Ethernet
interface is greyed out.

Doing a search on the web a few people have reported this but the only
solution appears to be reinstall until it works. Does anyone know of
anything else I can do?

I have tried sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-database answering as
appropriate but when I try to connect from the remote frontend
directly from a mysql prompt it still says no mysql at that host.
Clearly something is not being allowed through?

My Remote Frontend is currently Mythbuntu run direct from the install
DVD just for testing at the moment.

Anyone got any ideas?

TIA

You change that setting on the backend - not the frontend... If you can't get
it to change on that machine, then you can simply modify
/etc/mysql/conf.d/mythtv.cnf

I have a machine which is a BE and FE. This is where I am trying to
connect a remote FE to. The setting in the Control Centre on the
combined BE/FE is greyed out.

I have commented out the bind-address line in mythtv.cnf and that did
not help. If I change from 0.0.0.0 to the IP address of the combined
FE & BE that seems to get Myth confused and thinks it needs to setup
the backend again after I reboot.

The error message when I do a mysql -hTHEIPADDRESS is "error 2003
(hy000) can't connect to mysql server on THEIPADDRESS (111). This is
without even specifying a user and password.

Any other ideas?

TIA

Is iptables keeping the remote frontend out?

Sorted this for anyone interested. This was on a standard Mythbuntu
v7.1 install.

Like Mario suggested I needed to comment out the bind-address line in
/etc/mysql/conf.d/mythtv.cnf but for it to work I needed to comment
out the bind-address line in /etc/mysql/my.cnf also.
