USB UIRT: uirt2_raw: checksum error
Does anyone else have the USB UIRT device? And if so, has it
suddently stopped working with lirc?

This is what shows up in /var/log/messages:

Sep 28 21:33:33 cesspool lircd-0.8.2[3729]: accepted new client on /dev/lircd
Sep 28 21:33:33 cesspool lircd-0.8.2[3729]: uirt2_raw: checksum error
Sep 28 21:33:34 cesspool lircd-0.8.2[3729]: uirt2_raw: UIRT version 0905 ok
Sep 28 21:33:34 cesspool lircd-0.8.2[3729]: uirt2_raw: could not set DTR
Sep 28 21:33:34 cesspool lircd-0.8.2[3729]: caught signal

I google'd around for this, and there seemed to be some indication
that something got broke in the 2.6.22 kernel dealing with
usb-serial (ftdi_sio?)... of course I can't remember the details
now.

I'm running Gentoo's 2.6.22-gentoo-r8 kernel, and the problem seems
to persist.

Anyone else run into this? Does anyone know if this problem has
been fixed in the kernel yet?

Thank you,
Matt

I replaced linux/drivers/usb/serial/ftdi_sio.c and ftdi_sio.h with
versions from a couple kernels back. Works fine now.

Funny you should mention that, I found this when plugging in my brand
new USB UIRT last night. I had to rollback to 2.6.18 to get it to
work on my system both Debian etch 2.6.22 packages failed (2.6.22-1
gave an oops, 2.6.22-2 gave the error you listed above).

That post was from 10/07. I'm having the same problem in 01/08 using f8
with a 2.6.23.9-85.fc8 kernel. Other posts suggested this was an
upstream problem, as users from several distros are seeing it:
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/293503

Is there anything I can do to fix/get around/debug this?

Thanks.

That's odd. There were issues with the usb and uirt2 in the early Fedora
7 kernels but they got fixed a while ago.

I use USB UIRT in raw mode on Fedora 8 (using the fedora lirc) and that
works fine.

Cheers,

Martin.

Could you tell me your kernel, and what lirc you have (and whatever else
relevant you have), and what you have in your modprobe.conf and
/etc/sysconfig/lirc?

I have lirc-0.8.2-2.fc8 from Fedora, built Aug 07.

I would really like to get this working.

Thanks!

lirc-0.8.2-2.fc8.x86_64
kernel-2.6.23.9-85.fc8.x86_64
udev-116-3.fc8.x86_64

You don't need anything in modprobe.conf since the kernel module is just
the standard usb-serial module. /etc/sysconfig/lirc file attached.

I have this udev rule to provide a consistent location for the usb-uirt
device, put it in /etc/udev/rules.d/10-local.rules:
# Match USB UIRT remote control receiver/sender, which appears as a ttyUSB
# device
BUS=="usb", KERNEL=="ttyUSB*", ATTRS{product}=="USB-UIRT", SYMLINK+="usb-uirt"

Cheers,

Martin.

Martin, thanks a ton. Right now I can't get ivtv working right, so my
problems are a little bigger than that, but I'll most likely try this
next week.
