Transcoding failure
I installed a KnoppMyth system on a combined frontend/backend with a PVR-150,
and it works almost flawlessly.

One of the two issues I'm having is that transcoding fails. Transcode jobs
fail immediately. If I look at the Job Queue, I see:

Status: Errored (mythtv)
Transcode failed with status: 247

I found some information about the failure in /var/log/mythbackend.log. I
think the relevant lines are:

Any suggestions as to what the problem might be, or how I can get more
information about it?

Thanks,

Shawn.

Re: Transcoding failure [ In reply to ]
When I had that problem:
2007-01-18 13:18:42.655 Unknown video codec:
it was because the mysql database table (codecs) was corrupted. Runing a
mysqlcheck and fixing the corruption sorted my issue. Your mileage may vary
though, it appears to be a problem that crops up quite often.

I have solved this, but I don't really understand the solution.

The recording profile for transcoding included "Autodetect MPEG", which what
configured to use the RTJPeg codec. As an experiment, I changed this to use
the MPEG4 codec, and that solved the problem.

I found a Knoppmyth forum post that explained that there was no point in
transcoding MPEG2 to RTJpeg, because MPEG2 is better compression anyway. I
understand that (I guess RTjpeg is just frame-by-frame JPEG compression or
something?), but it's not clear to me why it would fail to work, even if it
isn't useful.

Any light you could shed would be appreciated,

Shawn.
