Need advice to unlock doors
Hi,

I've been asked to integrate our CM 7.1(3) with an iStar Pro system which controls electric strikes on doors. They want to be able to unlock doors from an IP Phone. Let's say a visitor's at the front door for me, so he lifts the IP Phone right by the door and dials my number. Then, I input a code or a softkey or anything that will trigger a relay, which will unlock the door.

I absolutely don't know how to do this. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
Regards.

Sandy.

There are various adaptors for traditional telephony systems that provide this. It is typically a contact closure device that hooks to a station port (FXS).

You would then assign a DN to the FXS port, and make sure that phone outside the door can't dial it... Employee dials the number to unlock the door, and hangs up. You could use a speed dial.

This is the most common implementation of the concept that I see.

I don't see how that would work if you had to do it during an active ip to ip phone call,. I could see a special door lock/phone device that ran off an fxs port possibly being able to do that while on a call.
Maybe a UCCX app could be setup where you set that phone to auto dial the app, it asks for the person you are trying to reach and records the person's name and then calls you and you say yes or no and then UCCX does some sort of call or http push or whatever to your lock system?

I would suggest working with whom ever installed the iStar system.

we had a system and all they did was install an intercom that I connected to
a FXS port and a simple press of 9 on the receiving phone opened the door.

for something like this, video would be very nice as you don't always know
who is out there.

we had ours set to dial any of our conference rooms as that is where people
were after hours.

YMMV

IPCelerate has some integration options like this. Might be worth checking into.

If this is in an intercom type situation (where someone pushes a button near a door), CyberData makes at least one (if not multiple) products that are designed to do it:

http://www.cyberdata.net/products/voip/digitalanalog/intercomindoor/docs.html

I haven’t tested the door strike aspect of it myself, but I know it is designed for it. They connect just fine using SIP to a Cisco phone system.

Valcom makes control units/door strikes/callboxes integrating with a FXO interface. Their phone pre-sales is really good and can help you out, check www.valcom.com<http://www.valcom.com>

We had this same setup at work. Callbox outside, you answer and talk, maybe check the web based video camera that it really is FedEx, press #2 to unlock that door using a door strike.

We have that exact type of application installed with our CM system.

Look at this company http://www.doorking.com/pages/dks-tel-1819.php

It has been working great for us. I even setup the phone to dial a hunt
group so that several people could answer and open the door.
